Tesla, popular electric car giant has begun accepting DOGE as payments for some of its products. CoinMarketCap data reveals that DOGE has increased by over 12%.

Earlier today, some Twitter users, among who is Billy Markus (the co-founder of Dogecoin) noticed that the DOGE symbol has been included close to the Tesla Cyberwhistle, with the “Giga Texas” belt buckle.

Dogecoin isn’t included among the payment options for Tesla’s electric cars. However, customers can technically purchase an electric vehicle using the biggest meme coin. With Dogecoin, one can buy the Tesla’s Cyberquad (a quad bike for children), which is about $1,900.

According to U.Today, Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer of Tesla, disclosed that his company is planning to make  some merch buyable using Dogecoin in December. This gives the crypto a huge boost after a sluggish price action for several months.

A pseudonymous software engineer, “Tree of Alpha,” earlier this week spotted Tesla testing DOGE as  a payment option. This happened at the beginning of this week after the source code of the website was analyzed.

During the Frequently Asked Questions section, Tesla emphasizes that it only accepts Dogecoin.

In May 2021, the electric car giant ventured into BTC payments. However, Tesla stopped using them as a result of environmental concerns. Still, on its balance sheet, Tesla continues to hold the number one cryptocurrency.

Elon Musk repeatedly touted DOGE as a more preferred alternative for payments over the use of BTC. Dogecoin Core’s new release greatly reduces the fees for all participants of the network.
